Reflexology to support existing health conditions, reduce stress and provide relaxation.

Welcome

My name is Melanie Minns and I live in Summertown, Oxford. I was introduced to the benefits of holistic healing and the ethos of treating the body as a whole during my first pregnancy. Since then it has played an integral part in my family's lives and my interest lead me to study Reflexology. I feel its' nurturing nature of healing through touch combined with its' logical basis that the systems of the body can be mapped on the foot resonates with me. In the same way that ripples radiate out across a pond, small adjustments to the feet reflex points can affect, rebalance and reenergise the whole body.

I am a fully qualified Reflexologist achieving distinction in the internationally recognised ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Reflexology, Anatomy & Physiology. I am a member of the Association of Reflexologists and am fully insured. My treatment room is a cosy oasis of calm, a perfect place to relax and revitalise.

Whether you are looking for support with an existing health condition, want to reduce your day-to-day stress levels or would just like a little "me" time, my aim is for you to feel happier, healthier and energised.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary therapy performed primarily on the feet. It is based on the belief that, through the complex network of nerves running throughout the body, different points on the feet (but also on the hands, face and ears) correspond to the different organs and systems of the body. During a treatment, specialist techniques are used on these reflex points to break down the build up of tension and toxins surrounding the relevant organ thereby helping the body to restore its own healthy balance and function to the best of its ability.

Reflexology is a deeply relaxing treatment. During periods of relaxation the body takes the opportunity to heal and restore itself. As well as relieving tension and aiding the removal of toxins working reflex points also stimulates circulation, improves the flow of nutrients to all parts of the body and boosts energy. It's a wonderful way of improving immunity as well as maintaining your body's health and wellbeing.

Reflexology is suitable for all ages from the very young to the elderly. It treats the individual as a whole aiming to create a state of harmony in both body and mind.

Reflexologists do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe and, as a complementary therapy, it should not be considered an alternative to conventional medicine.

Frequently asked questions

What happens in a treatment?

At the beginning of your first session we will have a friendly and relaxed consultation to discuss medical history and your reasons for seeking treatment.

Following this you will remove your socks and shoes and sit in the zero gravity chair (your feet are elevated in alignment with your heart allowing you to deeply relax and release tension). Your ankles are then placed on a bolster to allow better access to your feet, relevant knee supports etc added and you are offered a soft blanket for added comfort.

Following a brief massage warm up on each foot I will perform a specially tailored treatment using a range of reflexology techniques to work points on each foot. At the end of the treatment you will be offered a glass of water and encouraged to take your time sitting up. At this point we can discuss any specific areas of feedback and possible aftercare.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing so that you are able to relax completely during the treatment. Reflexology is usually performed on the feet (but also sometimes the hands), so the most you’ll have to do is take off your socks and roll up your trousers - ideally I need to be able to access your feet, ankles and lower legs.

Does Reflexology hurt or tickle?

You might find some areas feel sensitive to the touch, but Reflexology should not hurt and does not involve hard pressing in the way something like a sports massage might. As a Reflexologist I will be aware of the status of your body, as reflected through your feet, and identify areas that require a bit more care and attention.

Reflexology doesn't tickle. It involves applying some pressure to the feet so people do not usually find it ticklish and are able to relax and enjoy the benefits. If you are still unsure please feel free to try a short taster session.

Can you diagnose health problems?

Reflexologists cannot claim to diagnose, or cure, but during a treatment we get 'feedback' as to which parts of the body are working well and which are not. Sometimes Reflexology will highlight a specific area which is struggling or working hard to maintain your wellbeing; if a particular reflex point shows this kind of reaction I'll discuss it with you at the end of the session.

How many treatments will I need?

Everyone is different and while the response to Reflexology can be immediate it generally takes longer than one appointment. Often benefits can be seen after 4-5 sessions and while regular weekly treatments have the most impact for the body beginning the self-healing process, therapy should always suit your circumstances and occasional treatments can also be very beneficial.

How do I pay?

I accept payment by chip and pin, contactless and bank transfer.
